The first session of the 14th People's Congress of Zhejiang Province was solemnly held from January 12 to 16 at the Provincial Great Hall of the People. Shi Bomei, a deputy to the provincial people's congress and manager of the Chassis R&D Department at the Wanxiang Qianchao Technology Center, attended the session. On the afternoon of January 16, after successfully completing all the agenda items and tasks of the session, Shi Bomei returned home with honors.

That afternoon, on the day of his return to the company, the Party Committee of Wanxiang Qianchao held a welcoming ceremony, presenting Shi Bomei with flowers to extend their congratulations and then convened a symposium. Guan Dayuan, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Director of the Board of Directors of Wanxiang Group, and Li Pingyi, General Manager of Wanxiang Qianchao, among others, attended the event.

Shi Bomei said that she feels deeply honored—and also acutely aware of the great responsibility—of being elected as a deputy to the provincial people’s congress. This achievement wouldn’t have been possible without the growth platform provided by Wanxiang, nor without the 15 years of nurturing and development Wanxiang has afforded her. “During the session, whenever I introduced myself to others as a ‘Wanxiang person,’ everyone would give me a thumbs-up and say, ‘Oh, Wanxiang—I know it! It’s a big company, really impressive!’ As a Wanxiang employee, I feel genuinely proud!”

Shi Bomei promptly conveyed the spirit of the conference and shared her insights and reflections. What impressed her most was the work philosophy outlined in the government’s work report: “Focus on the five-year plan, make precise plans for the three-year period, and diligently deliver results each year.” She said that Wanxiang Qianchao’s own working approach perfectly aligns with this philosophy. For instance, in terms of technology, we’ve already formulated a green and intelligent technology strategy centered around “reaching peak carbon emissions and achieving carbon neutrality” and “understanding what users and the market really need.” Following the “seven steps and seven determinations” framework, we’ve clearly defined our work objectives, action plans, key technologies, and responsible persons for areas such as “9+N” projects, new product technologies, standardization, series development, R&D of ball screw “bottleneck” bearings, and the development of core components for standardized chassis. By putting this philosophy into practice and steadily advancing our efforts, we will surely achieve our strategic goals smoothly.

The Government Work Report repeatedly highlighted topics closely related to businesses, such as manufacturing and the private economy. For example, it emphasized building a modern industrial system with Zhejiang characteristics, creating a high ground for high-quality economic development, focusing on the real economy as the cornerstone of economic growth, and fostering specialized industrial clusters in new-energy vehicles and their components. It also pledged to implement the “No. 1 Reform Project” for the business environment, promote high-quality development of the private economy, protect the property rights of private enterprises and the rights and interests of entrepreneurs according to law, and vigorously uphold the spirit of entrepreneurship and the Zhejiang merchant ethos of the new era... Shi Bomei said: “After hearing this, I felt greatly encouraged and inspired! This is a major boost for our private enterprises and the manufacturing sector! We just need to roll up our sleeves and get to work!”

At the symposium, Guan Dayuan said that, entrusted by Lu Weiding, Party Secretary and Chairman of the Group, he would like to extend his congratulations to Comrade Shi Bomei! At this session of the People’s Congress, Shi Bomei put forward the “Proposal on Reducing Employment Costs for Enterprises in the Context of the Three-Child Policy.” Since the relaxation of the three-child policy, local governments have actively encouraged childbirth and swiftly implemented relevant measures—such as extending maternity leave and paternity leave, and introducing new parental leave. At the same time, however, these measures have also increased employment pressure on women and placed additional burdens on enterprises. Therefore, Shi Bomei proposed that relevant policies be introduced to provide enterprises with certain subsidies or tax incentives when they hire female employees and during the period when female employees are on maternity leave.

Shi Bomei stated: “I will study diligently to enhance my ability to perform my duties; maintain close ties with the masses and widely solicit public opinion; respond promptly to people’s voices, actively offer advice and suggestions, and wholeheartedly fulfill my responsibilities in areas such as research, deliberation, and inspection.”

“If I had to pick a single keyword to look ahead to 2023, I’d say it would be ‘strong,’” said Shi Bomei. This “strength” refers both to the “strength” of embarking on a new journey in 2023 toward fully building a modern socialist country, and to the “strength” that each of us—whether as an industry player or a company member—can bring by continuously strengthening our technology, bolstering our industries, and driving economic growth. As the manager of the Chassis R&D Department, Shi Bomei will lead the technical team to keep innovating and developing new products that are lighter in weight, longer-lasting, higher-performing, more affordable, smarter, and more competitive—ultimately reaching internationally advanced levels. On the other hand, she will continue to focus on the bearing strategy and develop “bottleneck” bearings—the ball screw bearing units. “On the path to making Wanxiang even stronger, I’m willing to remain a ‘screw’—doing my part and fulfilling my responsibilities! I believe that 2023 will surely be stronger and better!”

Representative Style

Shi Bomei was born in 1982. After earning her master’s degree in 2008, she joined Wanxiang and has been engaged in the development and technical management of automotive chassis components. Guided by Wanxiang’s mission to “make the air cleaner,” she has steadfastly implemented a low-carbon and green strategy. Grounded in her position, she has overcome numerous challenges and led her technical team to successfully complete over a hundred research and development projects focused on lightweighting, extending service life, and reducing energy consumption—achieving green, low-carbon technologies and products. Under her leadership, the technical team has formulated over a hundred enterprise technical standards and developed a digital R&D platform for automotive chassis components based on these standards, earning eight software copyrights in the process. She has also participated in drafting four national, industry, and group standards; obtained authorization for 22 patents; and several of her projects have received Zhejiang provincial awards for science and technology.

While performing her job duties diligently, she also actively participated in the company’s “Warmth Delivery and Charity Donation Week” campaign and has been continuously supporting underprivileged students through the company’s paired assistance program. Over the past three years, during the pandemic, she enthusiastically volunteered in her community in her spare time, carrying out tasks such as taking temperatures and checking health codes. As a member of the executive committee of the district Women’s Federation, she actively attended all meetings and activities organized by the Federation and proactively offered suggestions and advice. She has received honors including Model Worker of Wanxiang Group, Outstanding Communist Party Member, and Hangzhou City’s March 8th Red Flag Bearer.
