“The day we broke 1,300 sets in just 12 hours, our entire team was absolutely thrilled.” This record-breaking “achievement” came from the DQ flange shaft project. Chen Long, the section chief in charge of production scheduling, recalled, “It was an unforgettable summer…”
In the past, the team’s designed production capacity was around 1,000 sets. However, due to a sudden surge in order volume, we must ramp up our production capacity to meet the target. But during this special period, they came up with an innovative solution: the five team members took turns eating in shifts, then returned to pick up where the others left off, ensuring that the production line would never stop.

02. Strive for perfection
1.5-second optimization boosts efficiency to a new level.
In addition to stepping up the pace of work, we also need to boost efficiency. The team pooled their collective wisdom, meticulously reviewed the process again and again, and identified bottleneck operations. To pinpoint the issue accurately, Chen Long brought out a stopwatch to time the operations—while one team member handled the task, another provided assistance and observed carefully. They discovered that by simply reversing the order of material discharge and loading during the quenching process, they could save 1.5 seconds. One point five seconds may seem like an instant, but on a fast-paced assembly line, it’s enough to cause a hitch. “We immediately adjusted the sequence of operations. Don’t underestimate those 1.5 seconds—any detail that can boost productivity, no matter how small, we’ll leave nothing to chance!” Their relentless pursuit of improvement in processes and enhancement of efficiency reflects this spirit of meticulousness and careful calculation.
Over the course of three months, the team members pulled together as one, each taking full responsibility and responding promptly to every task. Their hard work paid off, as production-line efficiency soared: 12-hour output exceeded the 1,300-unit mark, monthly output increased by 21.4%, and OEE improved by 5.6%. These impressive figures filled them with deep satisfaction. “Although it’s been tough, seeing the machines running nonstop and capacity steadily rising makes it all worthwhile!”

03. Be meticulous and thrifty
A small reform cuts costs by hundreds of thousands.
Even the most ordinary job can yield extraordinary achievements and shine with the brilliance of labor when infused with passion. The DQ Flange Shaft Team not only focuses on boosting production capacity but also pays close attention to reducing costs and improving efficiency throughout the manufacturing process. Take, for example, a tailstock switch on a CNC machine: every time a product is manufactured, this switch has to be activated twice. Over the course of a single shift, that adds up to 2,600 activations—resulting in frequent damage. Each replacement costs nearly 4,000 yuan. After noticing this issue, the team came up with a solution: they spent just a few dozen yuan to buy an external switch and install it. The performance remains the same, yet the cost difference is astronomical—saving two “zeros” right off the bat!
Don’t underestimate just a few thousand yuan. Focusing on the goal of reducing costs and boosting efficiency, they’ve made concerted efforts across three key areas: optimizing personnel, streamlining procedures, and enhancing equipment and supporting facilities. Through scientific adjustments and technological improvements, they’ve managed to cut costs by over 500,000 yuan in a single year—effectively turning the lean manufacturing philosophy into tangible benefits. As they put it, “If one team can cut costs by more than 500,000 yuan in a year, how many teams are there in the company? And how many companies does Wanxiang have? The total cost savings add up to a figure that’s far from negligible!” These simple yet profound words offer deep insights. Their outstanding performance has earned the team numerous honors; employees recognized as “Monthly Star” and quality role models consistently rank first among all production lines in the machining section.
