During the Two Sessions of the National People's Congress, the Zhejiang Daily launched a special report titled “Securing Victory in the 14th Five-Year Plan: Taking the Lead through Practical Action and Stepping Up to Shoulder Major Responsibilities.” On March 7, the newspaper published an opinion piece by Lu Weiding—“Showing Off the Strength of Private Enterprises in Opening Up to the World.” Media outlets including Xinhua Daily, Anhui Daily, and Shangguan News of Liberation Daily also carried related reports.

Wanxiang Group is one of China’s earliest private enterprises to “go global.” Over the past 40 years, it has taken root in Zhejiang and cultivated its presence worldwide, transforming itself from a rural blacksmith’s workshop into a modern multinational conglomerate.
At present, the international market is undergoing rapid and unpredictable changes. Challenges such as geopolitical conflicts, the restructuring of global industrial chains, and escalating technological barriers are overlapping, posing significant difficulties for open development. Yet we remain firmly convinced that so-called crises also harbor opportunities within them. We have come to deeply appreciate that building a new development pattern featuring “dual circulation” is a strategic decision for China’s economic growth. Only by taking higher-level openness as our guiding principle and optimizing our global strategic layout can we seize the initiative and create a brighter future amid the shifting global landscape.
Technological innovation is the driving force behind enterprise development and the key to meeting international competition. Externally, Wanxiang has established R&D centers in North America, Europe, and other regions, focusing on tackling critical core technologies. Internally, Wanxiang is building the Wanxiang Innovation & Energy Hub in Hangzhou, creating a global hub for talent and technological innovation in the manufacturing sector.
To improve the innovation and technology system, private enterprises can play a vital role. We should encourage and support private enterprises in taking the lead in building innovation platforms, leveraging their channel advantages in global industrial and innovation chains. By engaging private enterprises, we can attract top international talent and research institutions, conduct pioneering and leading-edge research, and strengthen the central role of enterprises in technological innovation.
When enterprises “go global,” the focus is on optimizing and allocating resources, seeking a balance and synergy of interests, and achieving shared development and win-win outcomes. For example, the United States has become the primary destination for Wanxiang’s global expansion. After Wanxiang acquired U.S.-based companies, these firms had previously experienced various labor disputes, including strikes and production stoppages—but since the acquisitions, not a single such incident has occurred. Another example is Wanxiang’s “Solar Energy for a Thousand Schools” initiative, which has already completed donations and installations at nearly 50 schools in Illinois.
An open China calls for even more open enterprises. Wanxiang will continue to leverage its advantages in multinational operations, fully demonstrating the strengths of private enterprises within the new development paradigm of “dual circulation,” integrating domestic and international resources, enhancing development quality and efficiency, and leading more enterprises onto the global stage.
