Outstanding Communist Party Member | Wang Hongwei from the Universal Joint Factory: A Loyal Guardian of Frontline Equipment

Wang Hongwei, Team Leader of Mechanical Repair in the Forging Section at the Universal Joint Factory
In the forging workshop, the roar of machinery shook even the eardrums, yet Wang Hongwei could precisely pick out the slightest abnormality from the cacophony—a faint, unusual sound indicating worn gears in the machine tools. This veteran machinist, with 33 years of work experience and 17 years as a Party member, moved nimbly through the workshop wearing oil-stained gloves, calmly and attentively ensuring the steady operation of the equipment.
In 2014, a critical electro-hydraulic hammer unit in the workshop suddenly broke down. The manufacturer quoted a price of 268,000 yuan and estimated a repair period of three months. Faced with tight production deadlines, he made the decisive decision to fabricate the missing parts himself: he measured the dimensions, crafted replacement components, subjected them to high-frequency quenching, and immediately installed and debug them upon completion. It took only seven days to restore production—saving the company not only 260,000 yuan in costs but also gaining an invaluable 83-day extension in the production schedule. Over the years, the lubrication systems for presses and electro-hydraulic hammers that he has improved have reduced equipment failure rates by 30%, enabling the workshop to save nearly 500,000 yuan annually in maintenance costs. With his “daring spirit and hands-on approach,” his colleagues affectionately call him the workshop’s “stabilizing anchor.”
Over the years, he’s developed a habit of checking and inspecting the operational status of every piece of equipment first thing each morning before starting work. No matter the circumstances, he’s always ready to respond at a moment’s notice, promptly, safely, and accurately completing emergency repairs whenever equipment malfunctions occur. Opening his toolbox, you’ll find not only wrenches and screwdrivers but also a notebook with frayed, curled pages—on it, he’s meticulously recorded the “temperaments” of the workshop’s 35 machine tools: which ones have hydraulic systems prone to leaks, which bearings require regular maintenance, and even the exact model number of every single screw is clearly noted. As he often says, “Machines are just like people—you’ll earn their ‘loyalty’ only if you pay close attention to them.”
Even more remarkable is that he’s not only a master mechanic but also an outstanding mentor. Wang Hongwei has an unbreakable rule when training his apprentices: first learn how to be a good person, then learn the technical skills. He imparts his repair expertise to young people without reservation, and all nine young technicians in the workshop have become key technical personnel. His apprentices say that their master teaches them not just craftsmanship, but also the principle that “when you tighten a screw, make sure it’s tight; and when you’re a Party member, you must be truly solid.”
He has been honored 16 times as a model worker and an outstanding individual within the group, five times as an excellent Party member, and more than 20 times with awards for technological innovation. Yet beyond these accolades, Wang Hongwei remains true to his most ordinary identity—a loyal guardian on the production front line. As the setting sun shines through the window, his figure, bent over and fine-tuning equipment, has become the most reassuring source of strength in his colleagues’ hearts.
